About EdBridge UK
EdBridge UK was founded in London in 2017, by Xiaofan Li and Qiujun Wang. Both founders had spent just less of a decade working in the leading houses of London’s prestigious financial industry – Xiaofan was a former foreign exchange quant, while Qiujun worked as an actuary.
Having worked at the heart of the ever-evolving industries it did not take long before we realised that quantitative training, alongside the skills to write computer programs (or, to code), had become the core skill set of almost any modern, knowledge-based jobs. The UK government apparently also got this message, hence the announcement in the recent, 2017, Budget, that computing education is to be boosted with financial help from the Treasury.
However, on the front line, the computing education in primary and secondary schools is far from being ideal. Moreover, it cannot be changed overnight, or by government funding alone. At the end of the day, money can buy PCs and software, but not programming knowledge and skills. EdBridge was founded, therefore, precisely for this purpose – to teach computing and programming in a form that is most accessible and effective to full-time students. We harnessed a number of cutting-edge technologies and have been building a comprehensive online platform, edbr.org, for programming training for school students.
At EdBridge we also go far beyond computing – both logically and literally. We view all STEM subjects as an integrated entity that can be studied through computational approaches, in code forms. Our EdForum is set up specifically for the discussion of interdisciplinary topics.
In the summer, we organise summer schools in the UK for visiting Chinese students, and would hope to do the same in China for British students. Some of the visits are of a STEM/coding topic but some are purely cultural and focus on the English language studies. Besides classroom teaching, it is another way for us at EdBridge to connect and resonate with the young minds, with the ultimate goal of forming a global community of learning driven by shared interests and willingness.
